Here are some basement flooding survival tips:
Scan for hazards before entering basement to inspect flood level and damage.
Do not go into basements with standing water or visible electrical damage.
Stay away from breaker box and do not go into basements where energized wires are present.
Inspect foundation for cracks, or other damage.
Call your local utility and fire department notifying them of flood and to have the basement pumped.
If you know how, and if water gets as high as water heater or gas burner shut off gas supply.

Restoring electric or gas service after flooding:
Call local gas utility to have pilot relit after flooding has dissipated or been pumped.
Verify with your local town or municipality that it is ok to re-occupy basement.
Flooded areas of the home/building must be cleared of water.
Have town do an inspection.
If the inspector finds damage to the meter box or gas appliances, have a contractor make repairs.
After re-inspection contact local utility to restore gas and other services.
